Description

Düşünen Adam: The Journal of Psychiatry and Neurological Sciences has been published since 1984, as a quarterly journal with a board of referees. In our journal, experimental and clinical research papers in the fields of psychiatry, neurology and neurosurgery have been published.

Target Audience

Düşünen Adam: The Journal of Psychiatry and Neurological Sciences is especially for the scientists, specialists and students working in the fields of psychiatry, psychology, neurology, neurosurgery, pharmacology, molecular biology, genetics, neuroscience and other related areas.

Policy

Düşünen Adam: The Journal of Psychiatry and Neurological Sciences classifies the received papers as follows:

-Letters to the Editor,

General Principles

Only those papers approved by its every individual author and that were not published before in or sent to another journal, are accepted for evaluation. Publication of copied materials in Düşünen Adam: The Journal of Psychiatry and Neurological Sciences requires prior written consent of both the author(s) and the publisher of the source paper. The responsibility of acquiring the required consents is at the applicants’ due. Editorial board has got the right to change the context of a paper with prior consent of its author(s). Editors as well as the editor lingual editor hold the full power in all issues related to language, dictation, citation from/to sources like Index Medicus and related topics.

Ethics

In the method section of papers concerned with experimental research on humans and animals, a sentence pointing out that the informed consent of volunteers and/or patients has been obtained following a detailed explanation of the interventions carried out on them. In such studies, author(s) should clearly state that the compliance with internationally accepted guidelines (1975 Helsinki Declaration revised in 2002-http://www.wma.net/e/policy/b3.htm, Guide for the care and use of laboratory animals -www.nap.edu/catalog/5140.html) issued by the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Health and published in the Official Journal dated 29 January 1993 number 21480 "Regulations Concerning Drug Research" and other more recently published rules laid out in governing statutes. Protection of patient's anonymity is an ethical and legal consideration. Identifying information such as names, initials, dates, photographs, family pedigree etc., must be avoided. In order to identify such information, informed consent should be written and archived either with the journal, the authors, or both, as dictated by local regulations or laws.

Highest ethical and scientific standards and being free of influence regarding commercial interests is a must for the articles published in Dusunen Adam: The Journal of Psychiatry and Neurological Sciences.

If there is direct or indirect grant support, it should be acknowledged by the author in a separate paragraph and should include the full name of the granting agency and grant number. Pharmaceutical company or other industry support of any kind must be acknowledged by the author.

The editor and publisher do not guarantee or accept responsibility for the published features or definitions of commercial products.

Disposal of Papers

Compliance of papers to writing rules should be checked prior to dispatch. Papers should be sent online via http://www.dusunenadamdergisi.org. Because the written communication with the authors about the disposed papers are carried out by e-mailing, it is of particular importance to provide the editor with an e-mail address under regular use.

Preparation of Papers

Unless otherwise specified, written communication will be carried on with the first author, at all. The intention of having the disposed paper to be published in our Journal as well as the preferred section (research, review, case reports or letter to the editor) should clearly be indicated in the paper. The receipt of the paper is confirmed with a reference number to the author. Reference number is used for all communications.

Margins of the text should be 2 cm from the page border and line spacing should be 2 lines. Each section of the paper should start from a new page with the below given order of sections: 1. Title page, 2. Abstract, 3.Body text, 4.References and 5. Tables and Figures

Name and academic title of the authors as well the address, phone & fax numbers and e-mail address of the correspondent author should certainly be given in the title page. Personal acknowledgements should also be given in this page.

Papers in English and Turkish should be sectioned as Abstract (English and Turkish), Objective, Method(s), Results, Discussion, Conclusion and References.

Abstract: should consist of 250 words. “Objective” should explain the main/primary aim of the paper. “Method” should provide data sources, framework of the study, patients/subjects, visits/assessments and primary measures. “Results” should be structured so as to present direct clinical practices and interpret the results.

Keywords: 3 to 5 keywords in Turkish and English should be given underneath the “Abstract”.

The importance and history of the subject as well as the published studies, hypotheses and the objective of the study should be mentioned in the “Introduction”.

Data sources, hypothesis of the study, patients/subjects, scales, visits/assessments and primary measures, process steps and statistical methods should take place in the “Method” section.

The complete statistics of primary observations should visually be given in appropriately designed tables, graphics and figures, in the “Results” section.

In the “Discussion” section, findings of the study as well as supporting and non-supporting (established hypothesis) observations and results should thoroughly be investigated; compared to the observations and results given in the literature and differences should be explained, if any.

Interpretations should be summarized in the section titled “Conclusion”.

Unstructured format should be applied in abstract and body text of case reports and reviews.

There is no word count limitation for original studies and reviews. Case reports should be of 1500 words at maximum and have few figures, tables and references. Letters to editors will only be evaluated if the letter is consisting of 500 words maximum, with no table or figure and posted with the note “for publication”. Letter should be signed by all authors. Only those critics/comment letters that are sent no later than 3 months after the publication of a relevant paper are accepted.

Tables, Graphics and Figures

Line spacing for tables is double space with maximum allowable length of 120 characters and 70 lines. Each table is placed in a separate page with separate title. Graphics, figures and tables should be numbered with Arabic numbers in the order of their place within the text and indicated in the body text accordingly.

All electronic art can be submitted through the Web-based tracking system. Figures should be submitted as separate digital file. Electronic art should be created/scanned and saved and submitted as a JPEG file. Electronic photographs, radiographs, CT scans, and scanned images must have a resolution of at least 300 dpi.

When the author(s) has used a picture, figure or table from another source, permission from the copyright owner must be obtained, the necessary printing permission document must be provided and the source referred to in the text. Legends must be submitted for all figures. Figure legends should be brief and specific. Figure legends should be listed on a separate page at the end of the manuscript text. Color figures may be published if the editor considers it necessary or can be published with charge to the author(s).

References

References should be numbered in parenthesis and listed in the order of being referred in the body text. There should be no inconsistency between the order of numbering and the order of reference list. It is solely the authors’ responsibility to ensure the accuracy of references. Below given examples should be considered in citing the references. All authors are cited in full name. Abbreviation of journal names should be in compliance with Index Medicus. Journals that are not indexed by Index Medicus should be given in full name.

Evaluation Process

Fastest publication is a goal of our Journal. All papers are reviewed by at least two members of our board of referees for their originality, validity and importance. In case of lack of accordance between two referees, the paper is sent to a third one. The identities of referees are not disclosed. Evaluation reports are sent to the author. After corrections are made in accordance to the comments and recommendations of referees, corrected paper should be sent by using the web tool, together with a cover letter where corrections and answers to the critics/recommendations are mentioned. After the acceptance of paper the “copyright transfer form” should be sent.
